6 months!

Can it be that Baby June is 6 months old, already?! We went to the doctor today for her 6 month check-up and here are her stats:

Weight- 13 pounds 14 ounces (15th percentile)
Height- 25 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
Head Circumference- 16 1/2 inches (30th percentile)

I was really excited by these measurements because at her other visits in past months, she has consistently stayed in the 3rd percentile across the board, so she is catching up, yup, yup, yup!

Life is starting to become a well-oiled (okay, perhaps thats an overstatement) machine, as we figure out a schedule that works for all of us. We are so, so blessed to be able to take turns being home with June Apple, so that she doesn't have to be in day care just yet. Amos gives me the full report every day when I come home from school of the days events: "First we did our singing, then our calisthenics, then our vocal excercises, then we rested, then we ate, then we laughed at the hilarity and absurdity of the dog, then we started all over again."

June Apple finally got the hang of rolling over from her back to her belly but has apparently forgotten how to roll from her belly to her back, a skill she had long ago mastered. So that means that I will find her face down and grunting, frustrated that she can't turn over. "You can do it, silly!!!" But alas, she need a flip.

Other new skills learned recently mastered: screeching, drinking from a cup (with a little help, using a straw, drinking from a sippy cup, strategically dribbling all the water in her mouth all over her shirt so she can cool off in the 115 degree heat, swimming with mama, rice cereal experiments, sleeping in her crib from 8pm-6am!

Skill she continues to be a genius at: being cute and hilarious.

June Apple's room

June Apple enjoying her room at 3 months old...
I had so much fun putting together June Apple's room! It was such a labor of love and includes so many hand made items from so many people from June Apple's life. I'm sure it will continue to evolve as she gets older, or as I find other treasures to add/create.

Nearly everything in the room was gifted or passed along to us, including the crib, which came from our friends, Kristen and Keith. They gave it to us nearly 2 1/2 years ago, long before June. I hid it from Amos in my parents' attic for 6 months for fear that he would freak out and think it was bizarre that I was planning so far ahead. Hey, a girl's gotta be prepared! Plus, its a beautiful crib!

Some handmade friends

A quilt I made and Mom helped finish when June Apple arrived earlier than I expected..

A collection on the booties my mom made from my great-grandmother's pattern

All the bears and friends, on stand-by for the Emergency Bear Meeting

A painting by Amos, made in 2002. Artistic foreshadowing....

I made the pink pillow and my dear friend Erin, in her first attempt at quilting (!) made the flower pillow, to match a sweet baby quilt she also made for June Apple.

The changing table is the examination table that Amos' grandfather used during his entire career as a pediatrician. It hold all of her clothes and cloth diapers perfectly. I use cloth storage bins underneath to store extra burp cloths and receiving blankets, various soft-sided carriers, and clothes that are either too small or too big.

The room is so tiny (about 9' x 7'), but a perfect size for her. The small space forces us choose what goes in wisely, and find creative uses for the space. I am especially grateful to Amos and my dad who laid down the carpet and built the high shelves the week before June was born, giving me just enough time to make the finishing touches before her earlier than expected arrival!
